About Us and Our History
The Rug Market’s first owner, Abraham Davidson, founded The Rug Market in 1932 on Monroe Avenue in Rochester, New York. Raymond Buerkle, along with his partner Homer Schantz, purchased The Rug Market in 1958 and continued doing business at The Rug Market’s original location until 1968 when The Rug Market was relocated to its’ present location on Ridge Road East in Irondequoit, New York.
While still a teenager, Daniel Buerkle started working in the store with his father in 1962 and was learning carpet installation. It wasn’t until 1972, when Homer Schantz retired, that Dan started selling and is now celebrating many years in the flooring business.
A major store renovation took place in 1990 to give The Rug Market a fresher look to reflect product lines. The Rug Market sells carpeting, floor coverings-hardwood, ceramic tile, sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl tile-as well as window coverings, lighting and accessories. The Rug Market prides itself on superior customer service as well as expert installation.
